Benefits

Kaplan recognizes the importance of choice, quality, and value in our employee benefits package. We believe that the benefits package is an important part of our employees' total compensation, and it reflects Kaplan’s strong commitment to providing them with comprehensive and competitive benefits. While many of our divisions offer all the benefits outlined below, benefits offering vary by division.

The different benefit plans offered by the company are known as the Flex Program. In conjunction with our providers, we offer a variety of tools and services you can use to stay informed about your health, select the provider that best fits your needs, and understand how your benefit plans work, thereby enabling you to choose when and if to use lower-cost services to save on your out-of-pocket expenses.

Health Care and Spending Account Benefits


Medical Insurance (including Prescription Drug Coverage)
Full-time employees and their eligible dependents (spouse, same-sex domestic partner, and children) are eligible to elect one of our medical plans effective as of their first day of employment. The company pays a portion of the cost of these benefits.


Dental
Full-time employees and their eligible dependents (spouse, same-sex domestic partner, and children) are eligible to elect our dental plan effective as of their first day of employment. The company pays a portion of the cost of these benefits. 


Health Care and Dependent Care Spending Accounts
Kaplan full-time employees are eligible to participate in health care and dependent care spending accounts effective as of their first day of employment.   

 

Retirement Plans

401(k) Saving Plan
Full-time and part-time employees who have met the eligibility requirements to participate in one of our 401(k) plans have the opportunity to set aside money on a pretax basis for retirement. Kaplan matches a portion of each employee’s pretax contribution.


Cash Balance Pension Plan
Full-time and part-time employees who have met the eligibility requirements also have the opportunity to participate in the Cash Balance Pension (CBPP), a Kaplan-funded retirement plan that accumulates interest and money based on earned compensation. 
 
 

Life and Disability Coverage 

Basic Life Insurance
Full-time employees are covered, as of their first day of employment, for company-provided life insurance in the amount of 1x salary. 


Dependent Life Insurance
Full-time employees’ spouse, same-sex domestic partner, and eligible children are covered, as of the employee’s first day of employment, for company-provided life insurance in the amount of $2,000.


Optional Life Insurance
Full-time employees can elect to purchase additional life insurance in the amount of 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x salary. In addition, employees may purchase optional life insurance for their spouse, same-sex domestic partner, or children.


Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
Full-time employees can elect to purchase accidental death and dismemberment insurance in the amount of 0.5x, 1x, 2x, or 3x salary. 


Business Travel Accident Insurance
All employees are covered, as of their first day of employment, for company-provided business travel accident insurance that pays a benefit of 5x salary.


Short-Term Disability Salary Continuation
The Short-Term Disability/Salary Continuation Plan provides financial security to full-time employees by continuing an employee’s base salary in the event an employee is unable to work due to personal illness or injury. 


Long-Term Disability Insurance
Long-term disability (LTD) coverage enables you to receive part of your income while you are totally disabled and unable to work. Full-time employees are enrolled, as of their first day of employment, for company-provided coverage that replaces 50 percent of salary. Employees may also purchase additional coverage options.



Paid Time Off


Vacation
Eligible regular full-time employees accrue vacation days based on length of continuous service and may begin taking vacation days after an initial waiting period.


Holidays
Offices are closed in observance of selected holidays throughout the year. Holiday schedules vary by division and location. 


Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn paid sick leave each calendar year. During the first calendar year of employment, sick leave entitlement is prorated and may be taken after an initial waiting period.


Additional Benefits

Commuter Benefits Program
This program allows full-time employees to set aside pretax money for out-of-pocket, work-related parking and/or mass transit commuting expenses.


Matching Gift Program
Kaplan matches its full-time employees’ charitable donations as a meaningful way of thanking them for contributing to nonprofit organizations. A one-to-one match is available for most donations and a double match is made to educational institutions and organizations where the employee is an active volunteer.


Group Financial Planning/Group Legal Services
Kaplan offers full-time employees the opportunity to participate in a voluntary financial planning benefit that provides one-to-one financial counseling services over the telephone and online and a voluntary legal plan that provides a wide range of personal legal services for employees and their eligible dependents.


Long-Term Care Insurance
Kaplan full-time employees, their spouses, their same-sex domestic partners, their parents or parents-in-law, and their grandparents or grandparents-in-law can participate in Long-Term Care Insurance. This coverage is designed to protect yourself and your family against the financial burden of a long-term illness or injury. 


Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program offers professional and confidential counseling services designed to help our employees address personal concerns and life issues they may be facing.  Full-time employees and their family members are enrolled, as of their first day of employment, at no cost to them.


GlobalFit Corporate Fitness Program
GlobalFit Corporate Fitness Program is a network of the top rated fitness centers. They provide substantially discounted rates and offer flexible month-to-month memberships to Kaplan employees.
